Got My First Accessories

The 512MB Compact Flash card and UV filter for my D70 arrived in the mail today. The UV filter is just for lens protection. I'd rather scratch or fingerprint a $12 piece of glass than a $200 lens - even if some "guru" at nikonians.org said it can ruin your photos if the light reflects off the back of the glass. It's still cheap insurance and one of the best tips my daddy ever gave me about photography.

I've been reading some about the speed of memory cards. Frankly, as long as it's faster than the 5-second recycle time I had with the Mavica (it was still a great camera in its time, I just outgrew it), I'm happy. Add on top of that the internal buffer and 3fps (max) burst mode of the D70 and I'm in heaven. I popped the new card in and decided to do a test. I set the camera for full manual, left the lens cap on and squeezed the trigger. I fired off 14 shots before the frame rate slowed down and gave up after I clicked off about 100 shots.

One hundred continuous shots from a digital camera... wow.
