The strains of Jonathan Butler’s “Haunted By Your Love” are wafting from my speakers as I sit here digesting the bite of elephant I snagged this morning. I’m sorry I haven’t been around much but with school, the new job, homework, and being totally wiped out by the time I get home every night (I think I maybe fighting a sinus infection or something), blogging has been pretty low on the list.
Fear not, I haven’t forgotten about you, my seven faithful readers and since I’m here, I’ll give you an update.
I’ve discovered a very probable reason why I never cared for school. It doesn’t move fast enough. My Visual Basic class is agonizingly slow. I really enjoy the come sit in a classroom for eight hours a day for two weeks and we’ll teach you something format. I usually walk away from those sessions with lots of useful information. It usually gets retained, too, if I can put it to use. This one hour twice a week with hands-on practice every two to three weeks format is killing me! I’m ready for the next step, please. Just tell me which assignments to do for homework and I’ll get them all taken care of lickety-split. I could do all of them but that I don’t have time for.
I know, I know, it’s only one class and I’m in a minority among the students, having only two classes this semester. The rest of them probably appreciate the light workload.
My other class is confusing me by being slow. I don’t really understand the concept yet (it hasn’t clicked) and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be learning, exactly. (ooh! Dave Brubeck – Strange Meadow Lark just started) I keep feeling like, “Get to the point, will you!?”
Work is going well. As projects and information come in I’m trying to take a look at each piece and ask, is this something short-term or something that will require long-term oversight? I’m trying to determine if we already need a second person or the workload is heavy because some of these things aren’t set up yet. Basically, am I trying to eat one elephant or several? At the very least, I am awaiting information to determine what I want to propose for the next step on a couple of my projects.
The homefront is stable for the time being. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
