We're Here (and we're connected!)

Just a quick note before I go to bed and as I unwind from the road.

We were up late Friday because we hadn't packed yet so that meant getting a later start than we wanted on Saturday. The trip took us longer than we anticipated so we're pretty much just getting to the condo. It's 12:30am central time (we're in the mountain time zone) and we left home around 8:30am. So that means we've been on the road about... hmmm... let's see... carry the Tuesday... sixteen hours. This should only be about a 10 to 12 hour trip.

Part of the problem is that we took our time here and there. We actually stopped for lunch at an IHOP. I was hoping to find an internet connection to check the weather but they weren't equipped for it. We should have just hit a drive through and moved on but we stopped and had a real lunch. The options were chicken and fish so I had the pumpkin pancakes and she had the banana caramel french toast. (what do you want? It's late and I've been on the road for 16 hours. They can't all be good.) At our next fuel stop, we had to drop into the local Wal-Mart for some tummy tamer. The egg McMuffin or the biscuits & gravy wasn't sitting well... not sure which.

The last delay was weather. We went through some light rain along I-70 but didn't hit anything significant until we were West of Denver. We got close to the pass (you have to go over a mountain to get to Winter Park) and the traction control started kicking in on a regular basis. We switched drivers (dark+snow+mountains+curvy road= nervous Joe), down-shifted and took our sweet time going over the pass. The snow went from flurries to light but we were very careful and made it without incident.

Fun fact for the day - The high temperature we experienced for the day: 57 just South of Wichita. The low: 14 at the top of Berthoud pass.

When we got here, I fired up the laptop and, surprise surprise, it connected to an unsecured wireless router named "linksys." So, we are alive and well (although not entirely warm yet) and connected in Colorado.
