Burning Question

My wife likes her ice cream dead solid.  I don't mean extra firm, I mean HARD.  Here's my problem, our freezer, for some reason, won't even get it to firm.

Can anyone give me some tips on keeping ice cream firm in the freezer?

I'm thinking there's probably something wrong with the freezer.  The fridge is nearing 15 years old but everything else seems to be working - I just can't keep the ice cream firm.
