It's Always Something Stupid

I have never broken a bone in my life (knock wood). I've never really significantly strained anything but I have known people who have. If you see someone in a cast and ask them what happened, you will get one of three answers. 1) It's some sort of post-surgical immobilization. 2) It's a sports-related injury. 3) It's really stupid. You will sometimes hear a combination of 2 and 3 but what you will almost never ever hear is something heroic.

The story usually goes something like this: "I fell off a 3-inch step and fractured my ankle." or "I thought it would be a good idea to take a flying kick at a trashcan... that happened to be bolted down."

So, the dog and I play this little game. (now, don't get ahead of me) He's a total wuss. I can act like I'm chasing him and he'll run into the bedroom and squeeze himself under the bed. He 'bounces' while he does it so he's not really afraid of me.

Anyway, I was playing this game with him last night and was chasing him into the bedroom. I turned the corner to go into the bedroom and I must have kicked my left leg out for balance or something. My two smaller toes connected with the door jam of the laundry room... hard.

It didn't hurt a whole lot at first but that changed quickly. I spent most of the day hobbling around and, just to make the wife stop saying, "are you sure you don't want to go to the doctor?" I went to the doctor and confirmed that my toe is not broken. It's bruised pretty damn well but it's not broken. The only positive thing is I got some 750mg Aleve pills out of it.
