Doctor, doctor, give me the news

When we go to a restaurant, we expect to see a server within a reasonable amount of time. If that doesn't happen, we ask to see the manager or we leave.

When we go to a store, we expect a level of service - even if we have to ask for it. If we don't get it, we don't spend our money in that store.

Why is it, then, that when we go to the doctor we rarely even complain when we have to wait over an hour to see the doctor? We sit in the waiting room, wondering how much longer it will be, fuming to ourselves but are so releived when they finally call our name that we put it aside.

Why do we not change doctors? Why do we not tell them that we're not satisfied?

I'll tell you why - there's a level of trust. If it isn't there, then we will - and we should - walk out.

My wife and I went to the doctor this afternoon and waited over an hour and a half to see him. The time he took to talk to us during the appointment and the things he said made it worthwhile.

I think, however, that I may write him a letter and ask if there's anything that can be done.
